Aaron Volpatti vs. Brad Winchester

I missed tonight’s game due to a conflicting commitment. I did however just catch Aaron Volpatti one-punch Brad Winchester. From the San Jose Sharks and Vancouver Canucks game Thursday night. A quick one punch KO fight between Aaron Volpatti and Brad Winchester.

Winchester went down awkwardly but luckily he didn’t go down on his head or face and great sportsmanship was shown by Volpatti as he backed away as soon as he knew he was hurt.

Anwar al-Awlaki killed in Yemen

Anwar al-Awlaki, a U.S.-born radical Islamic preacher who rose to the highest level of al Qaeda's franchise in Yemen, has been killed.

Al-Awlaki, born in New Mexico, has been linked to al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula's (AQAP) attempted bombing of a U.S. passenger jet over Detroit on Christmas day, 2009, and was thought to be a leader of the group.

A U.S. government official confirms to CBS News senior security correspondent David Martin that al-Awlaki was killed. Yemen's Defense Ministry was first to tell CBS News of the strike, but given previous reports which turned out to be erroneous, the relatively rapid U.S. confirmation is crucial, and bolsters witness accounts that it was a U.S. drone strike that killed the al Qaeda figure.

Amid mayhem, al Qaeda suspects escape from Yemen prison

U.S. officials considered al-Awlaki a most-wanted terror suspect, and added his name last year to the kill or capture list - making him a rare American addition to what is effectively a U.S. government hit-list.

Al-Awlaki's father, who still lives in the U.S., filed a lawsuit against the federal government, claiming his son's civil rights were violated by the U.S. call for his killing.

A federal court dismissed Nasser al-Awlaki's suit on Dec. 7, 2010, on the grounds that he had no legal standing to challenge the targeting of his son.

A statement from Yemen's foreign press office said the al Qaeda suspect "was targeted and killed 8 KM (about 5 miles) from the town of Khashef in the Province of Jawf, 140KM (about 80 miles) east of the Capital Sana'a."

Al-Arabiya television network cited local tribal sources as saying suspected U.S. drone aircraft - which are known to operate in Yemen - fired two missiles Friday at a convoy of vehicles believed to be carrying al-Awlaki and his guards.

There have been previous reports claiming al-Awlaki's death which turned out to be erroneous.

CBS News' Khaled Wassef reports that Al-Awlaki was reported dead following U.S. air strikes on southern Yemen in December 2009 and November 2010. He was also the target of a U.S. drone attack that killed two al Qaeda operatives in southern Yemen on May 5, 2011.

Wassef reports that al-Awlaki last appeared in a video released online in August 2010.

Yemen has risen in recent years to the top of the threat list for U.S. security officials - with AQAP seen as the most active branch of the global terror network in planning attacks against the U.S. homeland.
Al-Awlaki was believed to be a prominent member of the group, taking some role in the planning of actual terror plots, in addition to his role as a religious adviser and powerful recruiting officer. His clear English, American roots, and powerful speaking skills are believed to have attracted many young Muslims from within the U.S. to the cause of jihad.

He reportedly met directly with Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the 19-year-old Nigerian who attempted to blow up the flight to Detroit in 2009, when the young man traveled for training to Yemen.

Al-Awlaki's voluminous online preaching, in both video and print form, is also thought to have inspired Ft. Hood shooter Nidal Hasan, who made email contact with the preacher before carrying out his attack.

His death will deal AQAP a serious blow, but Ben Venzke, who heads intelligence contracting group IntelCenter in the Washington area, says it does not seriously diminish the threat posed by the al Qaeda franchise.

"AQAP remains one of the most dangerous al Qaeda regional arms both in its region and for the direct threat it poses to the U.S. following three recent failed attacks," said Venzke, who monitors jihadi propaganda for myriad U.S. government agencies. "AQAP leader Nasir al-Wuhayshi, who is responsible for expanding the group's focus to conduct attacks on U.S. soil, remains in charge of the group and further attempts to conduct attacks in the U.S. are expected."

Big Day Out 2012 line-up announced via Twitter

REFORMED grunge act Soundgarden and hip hop star Kanye West will headline next year's Big Day Out.

The festival, which celebrates its 20th event next year, drip fed announcements of their anniversary line-up on Twitter last night.
Chris Cornell
The confirmations disappointed those expecting rumoured slots from Pearl Jam, Prince, Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine and the Killers.

Most of the acts were no surprise - British rockers Kasabian, American newcomers Foster the People and US rockers My Chemical Romance were badly kept secrets.

US DJ Girl Talk, Norweigan dance act Royksopp and homophobic rap crew Odd Future will also perform as well as American bands Best Coast, Cage the Elephant and Battles.

In a random move, skateboard king Tony Hawk will show his skills at the event, held at Flemington Racecourse.

Local acts include The Living End, Boy and Bear, Frenzal Rhomb, Hilltop Hoods, the Jezabels, the Getaway Plan, Parkway Drive and Architecture in Helsinki.

Several of next year’s Big Day Out acts, including Kanye West, Foster the People, the Living End, the Jezabels and Boy and Bear played at the Splendour in the Grass festival in July.

Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell tours Melbourne next month playing solo and Soundgarden songs acoustically.

The US grunge band, whose hits include Black Hole Sun, Spoonman, Rusty Cage and Fell On Black Days, split acrimoniously in 1997 before reforming last year to work on a comeback album.

Melbourne’s Big Day Out tickets will go on sale October 14 in staggered release from 12.01am on bigdayout.com and from 9am through Ticketmaster.

Sporting vs Lazio (2 - 1) highlights Europa League video. VS°Live

Sporting show mettle to emerge victorious Ten-man Sporting Lisbon held on to beat Lazio 2-1 and maintain their perfect start to their Europa League Group D campaign.
Ricky van Wolfswinkel put the Portuguese ahead in the 21st minute although the visitors responded as Miroslav Klose equalised five minutes before the break.

Emiliano Insua put the hosts back in front on the stroke of half-time with a 35-yard bullet strike.

However, the former Liverpool defender's night was ended shortly after as he was handed his marching orders early in the second half for a second bookable offence.

Sporting survived against a determined Lazio to clinch three points at the Jose Alvalade stadium.

Lazio, looking for their first win after their disappointing 2-2 home draw against FC Valsui in their opening group fixture, were under pressure early on with Insua's long-range effort forcing goalkeeper Federico Marchetti into an early save.

The hosts went in front soon after.

Van Wolfswinkel got behind Diego Capel's cross and beautifully flicked the ball past Marchetti.

On the half-hour mark, Stijn Schaars' curled free-kick was parried to safety by Marchetti.

In the 40th minute, Klose pulled Lazio level.

Hernanes sent the ball inside the area and Klose got past his market and struck a right-footed strike from 12 yards that beat Sporting goalkeeper Rui Patricio.

The hosts pressed forward before the break and were rewarded.

Insua's 35-yard bullet strike towards the far post beat Marchetti.

Sporting suffered a blow five minutes after the re-start when Insua was shown his second yellow card after a late challenge on Alvaro Gonzalez.

Lazio pushed forward and should have equalised in the 72nd minute.

Rui Patricio kept out substitute Giuseppe Sculli's bullet strike but failed to hold on to the ball and Adboulay Konko pounced from close range but was denied by the crossbar.

The Italians missed another great chance with three minutes remaining.

Lazio captain Tommaso Rocchi got his head on substitute Djibril Cisse's cross and his effort from a great position went wide in what should have been his 100th goal for Lazio

Alessio Rastani says get ready for Market Crash live on BBC

An outspoken City trader left interviewers open-mouthed as he admitted that traders 'don't really care that much' about the prospect of an economic collapse.
Alessio Rastani astonished BBC viewers yesterday by describing his hopes of profiting from a recession, adding: 'The governments don't rule the world - Goldman Sachs rules the world.'
The self-styled 'independent trader' also claimed he had been 'dreaming of this moment for three years', as the global economy faces continuing uncertainty. However sceptics took to Twitter today to claim Mr Rastani was merely impersonating a city trader and was even a member of political hoaxers the Yes Men.
One user said: 'It doesn't matter if it was Alessio Rastani or The Yes Men. What he said reflects how traders really think.'
In an interview on BBC News, Mr Rastani predicted, 'The market is toast.'
But when presenter Martine Croxall asked him what the solution was, he admitted: 'For most traders, we don't really care that much how they're going to fix the economy, how they're going to fix
