Rick Santorum has won North Dakota’s Republican presidential caucuses, adding to his wins in Tennessee and Oklahoma.
Rival Mitt Romney has also won three state contests — Massachusetts, Virginia and Vermont. The two are battling in a close race for Ohio. A total of 10 states are voting on Super Tuesday.
Newt Gingrich won a home-field primary in Georgia, and Rep. Ron Paul looked to three caucus states for his first victory of the campaign season as Republicans choose a challenger for Democratic President Barack Obama.
Romney said, “This is a process of gathering enough delegates to become the nominee, and I think we’re on track to have that happen.”Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul remained defiant Tuesday night in the face of no primary wins, rallying his fervent supporters to his signature causes of civil liberties and an overhaul of the country’s monetary system.
Paul gave no definitive statement of how long he’d continue his campaign. But he told supporters in Fargo, N.D., that his campaign has sent a clear message to voters that government grows endlessly, ignores personal privacy and spends too much money.
