Shola Ameobi Scores Against Tottenham To Make It 2-2 At St James' Park. High-flying Newcastle United will be hoping to stay in the top four when they welcome Tottenham Hotspur to St James' Park on Sunday afternoon.
The Magpies are unbeaten in five at home in the league against Spurs, and have won four of those matches, but manager Alan Pardew is well aware of the threat posed by the in-form visitors.
"Tottenham are on the back of four wins, so you've got a team who know each other and are winning and are comfortable with each other," said Pardew. "I said all along, ten games is your benchmark and we're not there yet, so we'll see after ten games where we are.
"I think Sunday will be a watershed for us because we're in good form and we're playing one of the top teams in good form, so I think it's going to be a real test for us to be able to try and compete with Tottenham. But our bench looks a lot stronger than it did last year, and that's going to help."
Visiting manager Harry Redknapp won the Premier League Manager of the Month award for September, but credited the players with his success - claiming that the current squad is possibly the best he's ever had.
"I do think that this team potentially could be the best I've had here," said Redknapp. "It's a good group of players. Scott (Parker) and Emmanuel (Adebayor) have come in and they have been a big influence on us this year. Kyle Walker is emerging as a top-class right-back as well so we're looking stronger."
