Miguel Cotto vs. Austin Trout | FULL FIGHT | LIVE 12-1-12

Austin Trout has passed the first major test of his boxing career. By upsetting Miguel Cotto to retain his WBA light middleweight title in New York on Saturday night, the American rising star should open up bigger opportunities for himself moving forward. When you consider Cotto's last two losses came against Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr., Trout is putting himself in some pretty elite company. It's by far the most important victory of his career at this point. The 27-year-old southpaw has been working his way up the ranks for quite some time now. He picked up his first professional victory over Justo Almazan back in 2005 and has tallied 25 more wins in a row since. An undefeated streak like that will always get a boxer noticed, but it takes a marquee victory in order to take his popularity to another level. Beating Cotto should accomplish that for Trout, who originally beat Rigoberto Alvarez to win the light middleweight title.Undefeated WBA super welterweight world champion Austin Trout (26-0, 14 KOs) retained his title with a hard fought, close twelve round unanimous decision over three-division world champion Miguel Cotto (37-4, 30 KOs). Both fighters had their moments in a bout that featured some good in-fighting. Scores were 117-111, 117-111, 119-109. Austin Trout was bigger, younger, and fresher. We knew that going in. And now we can be 100% certain that it's enough to topple Miguel Cotto, as Trout pulled the upset on the Puerto Rican superstar tonight, winning by unanimous decision on scores of 117-111, 117-111, and 119-109. BLH scored the fight 116-112 for Trout, who started quickly, had some issues in the middle rounds when Cotto adjusted, and then flat-out took over the fight down the stretch, sealing the win, staying unbeaten, keeping his WBA junior middleweight title belt, and ending Miguel Cotto's famed unbeaten run at Madison Square Garden.
