Super pac chase scene (Full uncut) The Daily Show and The Colbert Report

Tuesday morning, the most famous super PAC in America disclosed its donors for the first time. Americans for a Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow, the vehicle for much of comedian Stephen Colbert's recent hijinks, disclosed that it had raised $825,475 from its inception in the middle of 2011 through December 31.

While most political observers want to see which billionaires and millionaires are bankrolling the super PACs backing the Republicans competing for the presidential nomination, the Colbert super PAC did not receive similarly super-sized campaign contributions. In fact, 90 percent of the contributions to Americans for a Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow -- which can receive unlimited contributions from individuals, corporations, and unions -- came from donors giving under $250. Those small donors are not required to be listed on the super PAC's disclosure forms filed with the Federal Election Commission.

Mitt Romney to win Florida primary, CBS News projects

Tuesday is Primary Day in Florida, and thousands of social media users have been tweeting, sending photos and lighting up Facebook with posts about the presidential contest.

Throughout the 2012 presidential election, White House hopefuls have been taking to social media in the fight for the Oval Office. Meanwhile, journalists have been using tools like Twitter, Twitpic and Facebook to cover the election for the voters. And those voters, in turn, are using the web to make their opinion about the candidates heard loud and clear.

As Tuesday’s primary unfolds in the Sunshine State, Mashable is sharing the best examples of social media’s use during the showdown. Follow us to learn how politicians, journalists, media outlets and voters are using social media during the primary

Undertaker returns to ask triple h for a wm rematch on raw January 30, 2012

One night after the 25th Royal Rumble in WWE history, Monday Night Raw was held in Kansas City, Mo. To open the show, the interim Raw General Manager, John Laurinaitis made his way to the ring. He spoke about how he feels that he has done a great job as the GM and his job review will go great with his personal friend, Triple H controlling his fate. He announced that CM Punk will defend the WWE Championship at Elimination Chamber against Kofi Kingston, Dolph Ziggler, The Miz, R Truth and Chris Jericho. He went on to announce a star-studded card for the show, including Punk and World Heavyweight Champion, Daniel Bryan squaring off.

Following that announcement, Punk made his way to the ring singing, "Na na na na, na na na na, good-bye." Laurinaitis said that Punk owed him an apology since he didn't cost him the title at the Royal Rumble. After Laurinaitis and Punk went back and forth for a while, Bryan made his way to the ring where he spoke about the magnitude of his accomplishment from the night before. He added that after beating the Big Show and Mark Henry the night before, Punk should be an easy match.

Fifteen minutes into the telecast, Sheamus, the Great White and the winner of the Royal Rumble made his way to the ring next to confront the two world champions. He said with a little luck of the Irish, he will be the next WWE or World Heavyweight Champion.

Randy Orton vs. Dolph Ziggler

This highly competitive match was a great return to Raw for the Viper, Randy Orton. While Ziggler was booked to look great, which has been the norm during the past six months; it wasn't enough, as Orton pulled out the win after connecting with the RKO.

It seems as though Ziggler may be overlooked now, as the focus during the match was on Orton and Wade Barrett. After competing for the world title a night earlier, I would have expected to see more emphasis on Ziggler and a match where he could have earned a victory, but instead, he jobbed out the returning Orton.

Stun gun vs Occupy DC: Cops tase protester in pyjamas

U.S. Park Police officer used an electronic stun gun on an Occupy DC protester. Police say he was tearing down fliers warning protesters about the ban on camping in McPherson Square. Police also said the unidentified man was charged with disorderly conduct. The arrest took place shortly after noon Sunday. It is reported that after the incident the man had a seizure, and was then refused medical treatment. A park police spokesman said the man became "aggressive and confrontational'' when officers tried to arrest him and that is why the stun gun was used.

GOP Candidates Go Head-To-Head Ahead Of Florida

Four candidates competing for the Republican presidential nomination are going head-to-head in a primary debate with Florida's primary election less than one week away.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum and U.S. Rep. Ron Paul are taking part in the event.

HuffPost's Mark Blumenthal reports on the latest polls out on the Sunshine State race:

After a remarkably turbulent week, a handful of polls released Thursday brought a new twist to surveys on Florida's Republican presidential primary: a consistent finding.

The new polls conducted by Monmouth University and SurveyUSA, Rasmussen Reports and NewMax/Insider Advantage all show Mitt Romney leading Newt Gingrich by margins of 7 to 8 percentage points among likely Republican primary voters in Florida. All three find Romney with 39 to 40 percent of the vote and Gingrich with 31 to 32 percent.

The new polls also continue to show Rick Santorum and Ron Paul running far behind in single digits, with Santorum a few percentage points ahead of Paul.

Demi Moore Hospitalized

Is Demi Moore's divorce taking its toll?

The actress was hospitalized on Monday night after reportedly suffering from an epileptic seizure. Sources tell TMZ that the 49-year-old actress is being treated for substance abuse issues.

Moore's hospitalization comes three months after she announced her plans to divorce Ashton Kutcher amid reports of his infidelity.

Moore isn't the first celebrity whose life has taken a negative turn following divorce. Here, five stars whose lives spiraled out of control post-split, from stints in rehab to public intoxication arrests.
Christina Aguilera's behavior following her October 2010 split from Jordan Bratman was nothing short of erratic. It was first reported that the ex spouses were still living together months after they had filed for divorce, along with Aguilera's current beau Matthew Rutler. Then she allegedly passed out drunk at Jeremy Renner's birthday party--a rumor her reps denied--and majorly botched the National Anthem at last year's Super Bowl. She reportedly resisted her staff's request that she get help, and was arrested in March 2011 for public intoxication along with her boyfriend, who was slapped with a DUI.

Navy SEAL Team 6 rescues hostages from Somalia pirates

Mogadishu, Somalia • The same U.S. Navy SEAL unit that killed Osama bin Laden parachuted into Somalia under cover of darkness early Wednesday and crept up to an outdoor camp where an American woman and Danish man were being held hostage. Soon, nine kidnappers were dead and both hostages were freed.

President Barack Obama authorized the mission by SEAL Team 6 two days earlier, and minutes after he gave his State of the Union address to Congress he was on the phone with the American’s father to tell him his daughter was safe.

The Danish Refugee Council confirmed the two aid workers, American Jessica Buchanan and Poul Hagen Thisted, a Dane, were "on their way to be reunited with their families."

Buchanan, 32, and Thisted, 60, were working with a de-mining unit of the Danish Refugee Council when gunmen kidnapped the two in October.

The raiders came in quickly, catching the guards as they were sleeping after having chewed the narcotic leaf qat for much of the evening, a pirate who gave his name as Bile Hussein told The Associated Press by phone. Hussein said he was not present at the site but had spoken with other pirates who were, and that they told him nine pirates had been killed in the raid and three were "taken away."

The hostage rescue was carried out by the same SEAL unit behind the operation in Pakistan last May that killed bin Laden, two U.S. officials said on condition of anonymity to discuss the operation. The unit is the Naval Special Warfare Development Group, also known as SEAL Team 6. One official said that the team parachuted into the area before moving on foot to the target. The raid happened near the Somali town of Adado.

New intelligence emerged last week that Buchanan’s health was "deteriorating rapidly," so Obama directed his security team to develop a rescue plan, according to a senior administration official who was not authorized to speak publicly. A Danish Refugee Council official, Mary Ann Olsen, said that Buchanan was "not that ill" but needed medicine.

"As Commander-in-Chief, I could not be prouder of the troops who carried out this mission, and the dedicated professionals who supported their efforts," Obama said in a statement released by the White House. "The United States will not tolerate the abduction of our people, and will spare no effort to secure the safety of our citizens and to bring their captors to justice.

The Boston Bruins' Stanley Cup hero, Tim Thomas, refused to meet with U.S. President Barack Obama during the team's meet-and-greet with the Commander-in-Chief Monday, saying the U.S. government is "out of control."

Thomas, who won the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP during the Bruins' 2011 Stanley Cup victory, issued a statement Monday night after skipping out on the White House event. He is one of two Americans on Boston's roster.

"I believe the Federal government has grown out of control, threatening the Rights, Liberties, and Property of the People," Thomas said in a written statement. "This is being done at the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial level. This is in direct opposition to the Constitution and the Founding Fathers' vision for the Federal government.

PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten — Laura Dekker set a steady foot aboard a dock in St. Maarten on Saturday, ending a yearlong voyage aboard a sailboat named "Guppy" that apparently made her the youngest person ever to sail alone around the globe, though her trip was interrupted at several points.

Dozens of people jumped and cheered as Dekker waved, wept and then walked across the dock accompanied by her mother, father, sister and grandparents, who had greeted her at sea earlier.

Dekker arrived in St. Maarten after struggling against high seas and heavy winds on a final, 41-day leg from Cape Town, South Africa.

"There were moments where I was like, 'What the hell am I doing out here?,' but I never wanted to stop," she told reporters. "It's a dream, and I wanted to do it."

Dekker claims she is the youngest sailor to complete a round-the-world voyage, but Guinness World Records and the World Sailing Speed Record Council did not verify the claim, saying they no longer recognize records for youngest sailors to discourage dangerous attempts.

Dutch authorities tried to block Dekker's trip, arguing she was too young to risk her life, while school officials complained she should be in a classroom.

Dekker said she was born to parents living on a boat near the coast of New Zealand and said she first sailed solo at 6 years old. At 10, she said, she began dreaming about crossing the globe. She celebrated her 16th birthday during the trip, eating doughnuts for breakfast after spending time at port with her father and friends the night before in Darwin, Australia.

Bolton Wanderers 3-1 Liverpool All goals 21 January 2012

olton secured only their second home win of the season as the 3-1 victory over Liverpool lifted them out of the relegation zone.

Midfielders Mark Davies and Nigel Reo-Coker gave the home side a deserved 2-0 lead inside half an hour before Craig Bellamy reduced the deficit before the interval.

However, five minutes into the second half Gretar Steinsson restored the two-goal cushion.

Liverpool have won the last 10 encounters against Bolton but that record counted for little as early as the fourth minute when the home side took the lead.
Martin Skrtel stepped out to meet Chris Eagles' pass into Ngog but the slightest of touches from the Bolton player moved it on to Mark Davies, who charged into the penalty area to shoot low just inside Jose Reina's left-hand post.

President Obama Sings Al-Green (1/20/2011)

President Obama has a message to his donors: Let's stay together.

While speaking Thursday night during a fundraiser at the historic Apollo Theater in Harlem, the commander in chief showed off some impressive singing abilities. After mentioning that soul legend Rev. Al Green was at the event, Obama belted out a short rendition of Green's classic hit "Let's Stay Together."

"I...I'm so in love with you," sang the President.

Obama then playfully pointed backstage and explained, "those guys didn't think I would do it. I told you I was gonna do it." Addressing Green in the audience, Obama said, "Don't worry Rev, I cannot sing like you, but I just wanted to show my appreciation."

ABC News explains that about 1,400 supporters attended the event, which included performances from Al Green and India.Arie. As Politico reports, Obama likely raised at least $3.1 million from his various New York fundraisers on Thursday.

Canadian Freestyle Skier Sarah Burke Dies

Sarah Burke was an X Games star with a grass-roots mentality — a daredevil superpipe skier who understood the risks inherent to her sport and the debt she owed to it.
The pioneering Canadian freestyler, who helped get superpipe accepted into the Olympics, died Thursday after a Jan. 10 crash during a training run in Park City, Utah.
Burke, who lived near Whistler, in British Columbia, was 29.
Tests revealed she sustained "irreversible damage to her brain due to lack of oxygen and blood after cardiac arrest," according to a statement released by her publicist, Nicole Wool, on behalf of the family.

A four-time Winter X Games champion, Burke crashed on the same halfpipe where snowboarder Kevin Pearce sustained a traumatic brain injury during a training accident on Dec. 31, 2009.

Wool said Burke's organs and tissues were donated, as she had requested before the accident.
"The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude for the international outpouring of support they have received from all the people Sarah touched," the statement said.
Burke will be remembered as much for the hardware she collected as the legacy she left for women in superpipe skiing, a sister sport to the more popular snowboarding brand that has turned Shaun White, Hannah Teter and others into stars.
Aware of the big role the Olympics played in pushing the Whites of the world from the fringes into the mainstream, Burke lobbied to add superpipe skiing to the Winter Games program, noting that no new infrastructure would be needed.
Her arguments won over Olympic officials and the discipline will debut at the Sochi Games in 2014, where Burke likely would have been a favorite for the gold medal.
"Sarah, in many ways, defines the sport," Peter Judge, the CEO of Canada's freestyle team, said before her death. "She's been involved since the very, very early days as one of the first people to bring skis into the pipe. She's also been very dedicated in trying to define her sport but not define herself by winning. For her, it's been about making herself the best she can be rather than comparing herself to other people."
She was, Judge said, as committed to the grass roots of the sport — giving clinics to youngsters and working with up-and-coming competitors — as performing at the top levels.
"She was a great, positive person for the whole team, the whole sport," said David Mirota, the Canadian team's high performance director. "She enlightens the room, and she's great."
News of Burke's death spread quickly through the action-sports world, where the Winter X Games are set to start next week in Aspen, Colo., without one of their biggest and most-beloved stars.
"She's probably one of the nicest people I've known in my life, and that's about the only thing I have to say about it," said American superpipe skier Simon Dumont, a multiple X Games medalist.
Jeremy Forster, the program director for U.S. Freeskiing and U.S. Snowboarding, said freeskiers would remember Burke "first, as a friend, and then as a competitor who constantly inspired them to do greater things."
"She was a leader in her sport, and it's a huge loss for the freeskiing community," Forster said.
"Shocked and saddened," former freestyle Olympian Jeremy Bloom said on Twitter. "Sarah was a true champion in everything that she did."
Burke's death is also sure to re-ignite the debate over safety on the halfpipe.
Pearce's injury — he has since recovered and is back to riding on snow — was a jarring reminder of the dangers posed to these athletes who often market themselves as devil-may-care thrillseekers but know they make their living in a far more serious, and dangerous, profession.
The sport's leaders defend the record, saying mandatory helmets and air bags used on the sides of pipes during practice and better pipe-building technology has made this a safer sport, even though the walls of the pipes have risen significantly over the past decade. They now stand at 22 feet high.
Some of the movement to the halfpipe decades ago came because racing down the mountain, the way they do in snowboardcross and skicross, was considered even more dangerous — the conditions more unpredictable and the athletes less concerned with each other's safety.
But there are few consistent, hard-and-fast guidelines when it comes to limiting the difficulty of the tricks in the halfpipe, and as the money and fame available in the sport grew, so did the tricks. In 2010, snowboarding pioneer Jake Burton told the Associated Press that much of this was self-policed by athletes who knew where to draw the line.
"If the sport got to the point where halfpipe riding became really dangerous, I think riders would do something about it," Burton said. "It wouldn't be cool anymore."

Newt Gingrich wanted 'open marriage,' ex-wife says

Newt Gingrich offered his second wife a choice of an open marriage or a divorce when he revealed to her he was having an affair with the woman he later made his third wife, Marianne Gingrich said in interviews with ABC News and the Washington Post.

A day after he told his wife about his affair with Callista Bisek in May 1999, the former House speaker delivered a speech titled "The Demise of American Culture" to a group of Republican women in Pennsylvania, the Washington Post reported Thursday.

Los Angeles Clippers Defeat The Dallas Mavericks In Lob City Game

After seeing a six-point lead disappear in just about 30 seconds, the Los Angeles Clippers faced a one-point deficit with just five seconds to go. And as the Clippers tried to inbound the ball, Mo Williams nearly booted it away, sparking another lengthy review in a final minute that took closer to 10, thanks to the officials' frequent trip to the monitor. When it was all over, though, the Clippers maintained possession, then watched as Chauncey Billups buried a three to put them back on top with only a second to go.
Chris Paul remained on the bench in street clothes, giving way to Billups, Williams and Randy Foye. And it was Williams that took advantage of his minutes, scoring a game-high 26 points in 35 minutes. Billups added 21 points, DeAndre Jordan finished with 19 points and Blake Griffin had a relatively quiet offensive night, scoring 14 points while grabbing 17 rebounds.

Delonte West and Dirk Nowitzki each scored 17 points in the loss. Jason Kidd dished out 10 assists and Shawn Marion grabbed 10 rebounds.
Still, Dallas had a shot to tie on the ensuing possession, inbounding the ball from the front-court, in prime lob range. However, Los Angeles read it well, and prevented the last-second heave at the rim, hanging on for a 91-89 win.

Jamie Mayo excuse for hiring sex offender for park.

Police investigating a vicious attack on a woman in Mt Roskill say they are speaking with known sex offenders in the area and have boosted patrols there.

A 27-year-old woman was brutally attacked in broad daylight as she walked through the grounds of Mt Roskill Intermediate at 5.30pm on Tuesday.

Passers-by found her sitting on a kerb half-naked, confused and seriously distressed.

She is recovering in Auckland Hospital after suffering injuries, including to her face, and is undergoing medical tests.

Police have not yet revealed the full extent of her injuries though the attack has been described as "vicious".

Detective Sergeant Pete Steward said the woman had been severely traumatised but was starting to recall details of her ordeal.

Steward said both the woman and her husband, who arrived on the scene to pick his wife up from work, were seriously upset.

Investigators were canvassing the area to find witnesses and speak with anyone who had seen anything suspicious.

He said they were having "some degree of success" as a result, and were speaking with at least one woman who had potentially helpful information. He wouldn't elaborate on the details.

They were also working their way through a list of known sex offenders in the area, Steward said.

Police believe the attack might be linked to an incident that happened about an hour earlier when a woman was approached by a man but managed to flee.

It was yet to be confirmed but the descriptions of the men are similar, Steward said.

Police are yet to release a description of the man.

Steward said the public did not need to be alarmed and that police have increased patrols in the area as a result of the attack.

Inspector Gary Allcock yesterday described the attack as "pretty vicious and pretty callous and pretty calculating".

"What we'd ask is anybody that has any information, no matter how irrelevant they think it might be, to contact us and let us make that decision.

"That includes women that might have been approached by a male recently in that area or people that have seen something they thought was suspicious but didn't bother to stop and call police and just thought it was one of those things."

Bus Driver Charged In School Bus Crash In Easley; 11 Injured

Easley Police have ticketed the school bus driver involved in an accident that sent ten students and an adult to area hospitals Tuesday morning.

The Pickens County School district has also placed the driver of the bus, 52 year old Rebecca Marie Jones Reeves, on administrative leave pending an internal investigation by the district.

Ten students and one adult were injured and transported after the accident at Highway 135 and West A Avenue, according to officials.

Reeves is charged with failure to yield right of way in the crash involving a small Kia SUV around 7:30 a.m.

Injuries were minor and non-life threatening according to EPD. Administrators say the students attend McKissick Elementary, Gettys Middle and Easley High School. They have all been released from the hospital.

Gettys Middle School student Jonathan Richard says, “Next thing you know I heard a horn, and then boom, and then we felt the whole side of the bus, come up and then back down.”

Richard says his ride to school landed him in the hospital. He explains, “There's people screaming everywhere and said, ‘Oh, Lord we done had a wreck.”

That's what Richard remembers when he came to on the bus...he says he lost consciousness for a few seconds. Richard says, “I hit my head on the window, blacked out, and that's when I started realizing we had wrecked.”

Easley police say a bus driver was turning from West A Avenue onto Highway 135 when she pulled out in front of an SUV. Richard says, “All I know is we turned the turn, and we hear boom.”

Bus driver 52 year old Rebecca Marie Jones Reeves was charged with failure to yield right of way, and she was placed on administrative leave by the Pickens County School District.

Richard’s mother, Regina Patterson, says, “If she (the bus driver) got charged with failure to yield the right of way, she don't need to drove no more. They need more responsible people on their buses.”

Citing personnel policy, the school district will not tell us if Reeves has a prior record of driving violations. We did find out that according to district policy, a bus driver cannot have more than four points against their driver's license within the last twelve months. Bus drivers are also required to undergo classroom and behind-the-wheel testing before they can be certified. And they must attend training each year.

Patterson says the district needs to carefully screen each driver. She says, “They need to pay more attention. They got lives on there, very precious lives.”

Richard says the wreck has him scared to ride the bus now. He says, “It's a scary experience for mothers when they get a call saying their children has been in a bus wreck.”

“7 On Your Side” has sent in a Freedom of Information request to the DMV to obtain a copy of Reeves’ driving record. Easley Police say they have not looked in to this because this isn't the type of traffic violation that would prompt them to investigate a driver's history.

Judge Judy - You have a hot temper!

Anyone else besides me think that this "re-enactment" he's talking about took place at Park Place and Boardwalk? I dunno about 'rewarding' the Plaintiff for her bad behavior, but if a previous higher court deemed that the defendant was guilty of trespass ( by her own admission of guilt ), I don't understand why Judge Judy did not look past it and not reward, but compensate the plaintiff for her legal fees.
Bad Behavior or not, sadly it is still within her legal rights to not allow the defendant to walk through, despite me not agreeing with it due to young children.

Bruno Senna to race for Williams

Bruno Senna has found a drive for the 2012 Formula One season linking up with the Williams team in place of fellow Brazilian Rubens Barrichello, it was announced on Tuesday.

Senna replaced Nick Heidfeld at Renault for the final races of last season but was overlooked for this year as the team went with Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastien Grosjean.

The decision sees the Senna name return to Williams, for whom Bruno's late uncle Ayrton, the three-time world champion, was driving when he was killed at the San Marino Grand Prix in May 1994.

Senna will compete for Williams alongside Venezuelan Pastor Maldonado, who will be entering his second season with the team.

"I feel very privileged Williams has selected me as one of their race drivers," said Senna who will make his debut for Williams in Jerez on February 9 in the first of the winter tests.

"The team has a great heritage and I hope I can help write a good chapter in their history.

"The evaluation process has been intense and methodical, but the time I have spent in the factory has demonstrated the team has great people and all the resources needed to achieve better things this season.

"It will be very interesting to drive for a team that my uncle has driven for, particularly as quite a few of the people here actually worked with Ayrton.

"Hopefully we can bring back some memories and create some great new ones too.

"I also want to get some good results in return for the support my country has given me to help get me to this position today."

Commenting on the choice of Senna, Williams chief Sir Frank Williams said: "The circumstances of Bruno's two seasons in Formula One have not given him an ideal opportunity to deliver consistently.

"So it was essential we spent as much time with him as possible to understand and evaluate him as a driver.

"We have done this both on track and in our simulator and he has proven quick, technically insightful and above all capable of learning and applying his learning quickly and consistently.

"Now we are looking forward to seeing that talent in our race car."

Wikipedia To Blackout Website For 24 Hours In Protest SOPA

Wikipedia has apparently joined the ranks of several high-profile websites that are planning a "blackout" on Wednesday, January 18, in protest of Congress' proposed anti-piracy legislation. During the blackout period, many web pages will become unavailable and will likely be replaced with information about the protest.

Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales took to Twitter on Monday to announce that the English-language version of Wikipedia will go dark on Wednesday for 24 hours -- from midnight EST on January 18 until midnight EST January 19. He noted in a later tweet that "Final details [are] under consideration but consensus seems to be for 'full' rather than 'soft' blackout!"

Wednesday's so-called SOPA Strike was initially proposed by Reddit, which will go dark for 12 hours to protest H.R. 3261, the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), and S. 968, the PROTECT IP Act (PIPA). These bills are designed to punish primarily foreign-based websites found to violate or facilitate violations of U.S. copyrights. Backlash against the bills has been strong, particularly among the online community. Google, eBay, Mozilla, Twitter, Facebook, Huffington Post parent company Aol and other web giants have formally opposed the bills. The popular Cheezburger Network has joined Reddit in committing to a blackout-protest on January 18, as has news blog Boing Boing and several other prominent sites. Community classified ads site Craigslist has also come out recently against the bills but has not officially stated that it will participate in the blackout.

According a tweet posted by @Jimmy_Wales, Jimmy Wales' official Twitter handle, Wikipedia is planning for its January 18 blackout to affect only en.Wikipedia.org, though, the tweet continued, "the Germans will run a banner, and other languages will make their own decisions."

Newt Gingrich fights back Juan Williams skepticism on race

It is Martin Luther King Day, and a good time to look at how racial politics is being played this year when the first black president in U.S. history is seeking reelection.

The big news about racial politics in 2012 is that generational politics are now a critical factor in any analysis of America’s longstanding racial divide.

Young people, disproportionately minorities and immigrants, are growing in numbers. These people of color, younger than 18, are already a quarter of the population. And when you add in people under age 32, younger people make up half of the nation. They are big fans of Democrats and President Obama.

Meanwhile, those 65 and older constitute only about 15 percent of the population. But they are overwhelmingly white and much more politically active. They don’t like Obama. They are a boon to the GOP.

Those white seniors don’t like being branded as racists for their dislike of the first black president, but as Time magazine recently reported, the seniors’ disapproval of the black president is “dramatically higher” than among younger white people.

A Pew poll showed voters younger than 30 favored Obama over the probable GOP nominee, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, 61 percent to 37 percent. Seniors favored Romney over Obama, 54 percent to 41 percent.

That Grand Canyon-wide gap between more racially diverse younger Americans and solidly white older Americans is also evident in every analysis of public reaction to Obama’s signature legislation — health care reform. A Kaiser Family Foundation poll found a stunning 50 percent of seniors opposed to the plan.

On the other side of the racial and political divide, there is little chance that black voters will support a 92 percent white Republican Party trying to oust the first black president. The GOP’s only hope among the ever-increasing number of young and minority voters is to win over the fastest growing racial group in the United States — Hispanics.

Instant Juice: Syracuse 71, Pittsburgh 63

The Orange jumped out to a 13-0 lead and lead by as many as 14 points in the second half before a 15-5 Pitt run brought the Panthers to within 53-49 with 8:39 left. But SU immediately responded, as Kris Joseph and Dion Waiters hit 3-pointers on back to back plays, and Syracuse lead by at least eight points the rest of the way. With the win, SU coach Jim Boeheim notched his 876th win, tying Adolph Rupp for fourth place all-time among Division I coaches. Syracuse also improved to 20-0, the best start in school history.

ANALYSIS: The game had the makings of a blow out when the Orange jumped out to a 13-0 lead, but the Panthers hung around, and never trailed by more than 14 points. They did that by dominating the Orange on the boards (38-24) and limiting their turnovers (13). SU also looked uncomfortable in its halfcourt set, and frequently settled for perimeter jumpers. The Orange was just 5-for-18 from downtown. But there is no such thing as a bad win against Pittsburgh, something the Orange hadn’t done since the 2006 Big East tournament. It was also the first time Syracuse notched a win at the Dome against the Panthers since 2003.

HERO: Syracuse once again had balanced scoring, as Kris Joseph (12), Brandon Triche (12), Scoop Jardine (12), Fab Melo (10) and Dion Waiters (13) were all in double figures.

ZERO: Nasir Robinson was 1-for-5 from the field and 2-for-8 from the free throw line for four points. It was symptomatic of the whole team, as the Panthers were 12-for-23 from the charity stripe. Pittsburgh is now 0-6 in conference play for the first time in school history.

WHAT’S NEXT: Syracuse will travel to South Bend, IN to play Notre Dame on Sat., Jan 21 at 6:00 p.m. TV: ESPN.

Senator Tom Davis endorses Ron Paul ‎ - WMBF

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) SC Senator Tom Davis has announced his endorsement of Ron Paul, a candidate he feels can beat Barack Obama while staying true to Republican Party principles.

During a press conference in Myrtle Beach Sunday night, Davis announced his endorsement of candidate Ron Paul, saying Dr. Paul has fought a lonely battle in Washington against crony capitalism.
SLIDESHOW

Click here to view a photo gallery of images from the announcement.

Davis commented that his endorsement is about the ideals that Ron Paul stands for.

Taking to the podium after receiving his endorsement, Paul told the crowd that showed up at the Pallisades Ballroom in Myrtle Beach Sunday that, "We will do well next Saturday."

Paul added that current administration is bad, but bad ideas have been happening for the past thirty years.

Paul said he'd like to cut the budget $1,000,000,000,000 in his first year in office, and bring the troops home. He added we shouldn't go to war unless Congress declares it, and the United States should stop being world police. There's no reason we should go into Iran, Paul said.

Paul said he wants a stronger national defense, and mentions of the National Defense Authorization Act, signed into law by President Obama on Dec. 31, 2011, brought boos from the crowd.

Paul later added that our rights come from our Creator, not our government.

WMBF News Reporter Will Whitson is at the press conference and will bring more details as they become available.

Jon Huntsman Conceding 2012 Presidential Race Ahead Of South Carolina Primary

Jon Huntsman is dropping out of the race for the Republican presidential nomination, according to campaign officials.

An aide to Huntsman confirmed the news to The Huffington Post and said the former governor of Utah would endorse Mitt Romney on Monday. The aide added that Huntsman "didn't want to stand in the way of the candidate most prepared to beat Obama and turn around the economy."

Huntsman will deliver a speech on his decision on Monday at 11 a.m. ET in Myrtle Beach, S.C., according to the aide. Romney will not stand alongside the Utah Republican as he delivers his remarks.

Huntsman placed third in New Hampshire's primary election last week after investing significant time and resources in the Granite State. Following the contest, he said, "Third place is a ticket to ride, ladies and gentlemen."

Huntsman would have faced an uphill battle to deliver a strong performance in South Carolina's primary election, which will take place next Saturday. Recent polls have shown Huntsman trailing rival contenders competing for the GOP nomination by a wide margin in the conservative state.

Once discussed as the candidate that the Obama reelection team found most challenging to face, Huntsman stumbled under the Klieg lights of the presidential campaign. One close adviser acknowledged, during the final days of the New Hampshire primary, that he found the transition from the world of international diplomacy to electoral politics "difficult to execute." Complicating matters was fundraising, which failed to pick up after Huntsman's initial entrance into the race.

There were green shoots along the way. Huntsman won the backing of several prominent editorial boards, including The State, South Carolina's largest newspaper, which endorsed him less than 24 hours before his campaign announced he was leaving the race. During the final days of the New Hampshire primary, aides sincerely believed he was hitting his stride, with a sharp Sunday morning debate performance and a well-received final speech in Exeter, New Hampshire.

A second place finish would have made it much easier to keep the campaign going through South Carolina and into Florida. But Huntsman couldn't break through. His final percentage of the vote (17) was more than top aides expected as recently as two days before New Hampshire held its primary. But it still came off as a disappointment.

"Jon Huntsman is proud of the race he ran and his message of restoring trust in Washington," emailed one aide. "He did not want to stand in the way of the candidate best prepared to beat Barack Obama."

Russian satellite PHOBOS – GRUNT – crashes near south Chile

The failed Russian space probe Phobos-Grunt fell back to Earth on Sunday, crashing in the southeastern Pacific Ocean off Chile, Russia’s state news agency Itar-Tass announced.

The spacecraft crashed about 1,250 km (775 miles) west of Chile’s Wellington Island, according to a Russian military spokesman quoted by Itar-Tass.

The nearly 15-ton probe was supposed to have landed on one of the moons of Mars and send back soil and rock samples. But its engines failed to boost it out of Earth orbit after its November 9 launch, and Russian officials estimated that fragments weighing up to 440 pounds could have survived re-entry.

Lakers Vs. Clippers Game Recap: Kobe Bryant Scores 42

The good news for the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday night was that Kobe Bryant continued his scoring frenzy, scoring 42 points and almost singlehandedly delivering a comeback win. The bad news is that the lead, nor the win, never came as the Lakers fell to the Los Angeles Clippers 102-94 at Staples Center in their first meeting this season.

The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for the Lakers.

Bryant scored 21 of his 42 in the third quarter that saw the Lakers cut a 13-point deficit to two at one point. Kobe hit 14 of 28 field goals en route to his 42 points, his fourth straight game scoring at least 40 points, and the 111th time he has reached the 40-point plateau in his career. Bryant has averaged 38 points per game over his last eight contests.

Andrew Bynum (12 points, 16 rebounds) and Pau Gasol (14 points, 10 rebounds) each had double-doubles for the Lakers, but the duo also shot just 13 of 30 (43.3%) from the field. The Lakers were outrebounded 50-42 on the night, and gave up 17 offensive rebounds to the Clippers.

Yes, this was the fourth game in five nights for the Lakers while the Clippers had two days of rest to prepare for Saturday, but the fact remains that the Clippers are a force to be reckoned with in the Pacific Division. At 6-3 (.667), the Clippers hold a better winning percentage than the Lakers at 9-5 (.643), though the schedule wasn't built to figure games back with such a large disparity of games played.

Lana Del Rey - Blue Jeans (Live at Saturday Night Live)

The sexpot singer made her Saturday Night Live debut on Jan. 14, one of fewer than a handful of artists to nab the coveted slot before releasing a first album (Del Rey’s Born to Die is due out Jan. 31 on Interscope), and reaction has been surprisingly harsh.

Following the performance of “Video Games,” the song that’s largely responsible for Del Rey’s breakout, The Firm actress Juliette Lewis, herself a singer who’s opened for the likes of Foo Fighters and Chris Cornell, tweeted, “Wow this ‘singer’ on SNL is like watching a 12 yearold [sic] in their bedroom when theyre pretending to sing and perform #signofourtimes.”

VIDEO: 'SNL' Mocks Tim Tebow, Predicts Patriots' Victory Over Broncos

It was a sentiment echoed by many on Twitter, as Del Rey was visibly nervous and her timing seemed a bit off.

“Lana Del Rey's next song is called ‘Muted Television While People Brush Their Teeth And Prepare For Bed,’” wrote @ranggrol.

“I expected to be blown away by Lana Del Rey due to the hype. It's time for SNL to get a real band on,” offered @NeonBMC.

“Lana del Rey has a nice voice & is GORGEOUS but she doesn't do it for me; her songs are too flat,” wrote @KingWithNoKrown. “I just don't see what the big deal is.”

Tweeted @karen_g: "Watching Seth Meyers walk up to Lana Del Rey, shaking his head and saying, ‘It wasn't bad!’ says just about everything, doesn't it? Ouch.”

“I love you but that was a HOT MESS,” snapped @MsPearlSnaps.

VIDEO: How Kina Grannis Walked Away From a Major Label Deal and Became Music's Next Big Thing

But Del Rey had her defenders, too. Several music sites, including MTV.com, pointed to the 25-year-old’s admitted nervousness. And it’s likely that her vocal style may also have thrown viewers, especially those accustomed to auto-tuned vocals that border on synthetic. Del Rey sings with a stoic, hushed, sometimes gutteral delivery and her melodies often veer into unexpected territory. Still, it's hard to put aside that Del Rey is green when it comes to performing live, and SNL was proof of that fact.

On Twitter, a fan with the handle @connersup wrote, “I actually thought Lana Del Rey did pretty good tonight. She was also gorgeous as usual.”

Another named Pony Sparkles declared: “i still love you lana del rey, my beautiful sedated zombie fembot ice princess.”

But perhaps @emiliawrites summed it up best with her Twitter sign-off: “Ok, now I've watched the Quite Ok But Not Mindblowing Or NuffinLana Del Rey SNL "Video Games" performance I can sleep.”

2012 Miss America pageant live blog: All the talents and tiaras

The 2012 Miss America pageant is here and we are not ashamed to admit we're very excited. Most beauty pageants are boring, but we've always liked Miss America because of the talent portion. Fingers crossed for something as awesome as last year's yodeling ventriloquist.

So follow along with us as we live blog all the grace, gowns and gaffes.

9:00 p.m. - It's so wonderful that Chris Harrison hosts this. It's so fitting. We just wish the judges were all "Bachelorette" castoffs.

9:01 p.m. - Miss Colorado's intro name-drops Tim Tebow. Do the girls write these themselves, or do they have to say what they are given?

9:03 p.m. - Miss Florida cites beaches, theme parks and people as her state's assets. People? That's it? Just in general?

9:04 p.m. - Oh, that looked like the electric slide! On the Hoover Dam!

9:05 p.m. - Did they just skip from Idaho to Indiana to Kansas? Who organized this alphabet? Where are Illinois and Iowa?

9:07 p.m. - Miss Maryland actually has to say "come enjoy our crabs." Ew. Just ew.

9:09 p.m. - What is with these fugly outfits? Some girls have on lovely dark-colored dresses and then others look like hippies threw up on them after taking some bad LSD.

9:10 p.m. - Miss North Carolina says their claim to fame is the first miniature golf course. Well, we suppose it beats the hell out of just saying "people" like Florida did.

9:11 p.m. - When Miss Pennsylvania says, "Come to my state for a delicious kiss - a Hershey kiss, that is" she fails to add on the end "because I'm Amish," but I'm sure it was implied.

9:11 p.m. - Yes, they've now skipped Texas and several others. What is happening?

9:12 p.m. - Brooke Burke Charvez reminds us this is a "scholarship program." We wish Candice Bergen was here to do that.

9:13 p.m. - Now we get the missing states, in two different groups. Seriously, this is weird. I don't like it. Are these the semifinalists? I think they must be, but I wonder why they did it this way. Edited to add later: That can't be it, Alabama and California weren't missing from the alphabetical order. But many of the semifinalists were in the final two groups. Weird.

9:14 p.m. - America's choice contestant is Miss Oklahoma. And her name is Betty. How cute is that?

9:15 p.m. - We find out the 38 girls who don't advance to the semifinals get to vote later on to save one contestant. This gets more and more like a reality show every year! By 2015, we are sure to have a bug-eating contest portion.

9:16 p.m. - The judges are some real winners, including "The Bachelor" producer Mike Fleiss, and Kris effing Jenner. Ugh. (As brilliant commenter Cici points out, what does Kris Jenner know about beautiful, wholesome, smart girls? ZING!). Also, who knew Teri Polo had those tattoos? Not me.

9:19 p.m. - The girls advancing to the next round are: Miss Oklahoma (already announced), Miss South Carolina (holy crap, she lost over 115 lbs?!), Miss Florida (and people!), Miss New York, Miss Iowa (wooo, Iowa!), Miss Texas, Miss Virginia (yikes, she is excited in her video), Miss Illinois, Miss Arizona, Miss Alabama, Miss Tennessee, Miss Wisconsin - and now we take a break? Seriously, what is happening?

9:25 p.m. - We're back for the last three. Which is a strange way to do this. The final three semifinalists are Miss North Carolina (the first putt-putt course, y'all), Miss California (who thinks Miss America should know how to "manipulate the media." Apparently she wants Miss America to be a Kardashian [ba dump ching]) and Miss Louisiana.

9:34 p.m. - Brooke is with the rejected girls. Miss Nevada looks like if Arnold's partner in "Kindergarten Cop" were a beauty pageant contestant. And then Brooke forces them to do a sing-along to that stupid "dancing on the edge of the Hollywood sign" song. If I was up there, I'd be singing dirty lyrics and hoping to get on camera.

9:35 p.m. - Swimsuit time. Oklahoma is rocking. South Carolina looks a little awkward. Florida is a bit of a butterface. Sorry if that's mean. This is a beauty pageant. They are there partially to get their looks judged, so whatever.

9:37 p.m. - New York strikes a pose as if to say, "What? Do something." and Iowa looks like she could potentially fall down. Texas is approximately 10 ft tall and may actually have a six pack.

9:39 p.m. - Virginia has on a silvery bikini that is kinda skanky and would not be out of place on "Jersey Shore." Illinois has on too much eye make up. She is a very pretty girl, but she looks like a raccoon.

9:40 p.m. - Arizona stomps down the runway like she's mad at it. Alabama has some actual meat on her bones, so she's my second favorite after Iowa.

9:41 p.m. - Tennessee has a weird She-Ra Princess of Power amulet at the front of her bikini. North Carolina's boobs are uneven (and probably fake). California has on the skankiest bikini yet, oh dear God in heaven. It's probably to distract from her face.

9:42 p.m. - Louisiana, like Texas, is Attack of the 50' Woman. We approve, you go, tall ladies.

9:45 p.m. - We are paring down to 12 for the evening gown competition. I predict the ones that get cut are Wisconsin, Virginia and California.

9:46 p.m. - The ones advancing are Louisiana, Iowa (woo), Illinois, South Carolina, New York, Wisconsin, Florida, Tennessee, Arizona, Texas, California and Oklahoma. Wow, I'm bummed about Alabama.

9:50 p.m. - And now the crap gets real, yo. Brooke tells the 38 rejectees that they have to line up behind the three who were just cut and pick one to advance. Oh, this is awesome. Alabama! Alabama!

9:52 p.m. - You can tell some of them are kind of disgusted and some are a little confused. Their accountants from Ernst and Young do the tallying, while Brooke makes this sound like the most important choice anyone has ever made. Alabama wins, yay! You go, girl who isn't a stick!

9:53 p.m. - Gretchen Carlson was a Miss America? Ew.

9:55 p.m. - Time for evening wear. It's so funny to see what the ladies' tastes are. Speaking of which, Louisiana has on a gorgeous dress, though we aren't sure the cutout of skin should extend that far into the front.

9:56 p.m. - Iowa is steamin' in red, we love it. Illinois' dress is a little too prom for me, but taste is subjective.

9:57 p.m. - South Carolina's dress does not trip my trigger. Also, it's binding around her legs, so she can't walk right. She's loping along like a dude in drag who doesn't know how to walk in heels. Thumbs down, lady. Sorry.

9:58 p.m. - New York's dress is gorgeous, though the neckline peaks are a little sharp. Wisconsin goes for black, sleek and elegant. Though let's not get carried away comparing it to Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, lady. She was not showing that much boob and you know it.

9:59 p.m. - Florida's voiceover goes, "The perfect dress has to make me feel eight foot tall." Which makes us more sure she penned her own line of "beaches, theme parks and people."

10:00 p.m. - Tennessee slinks down the runway like she's going to grab a chair at the end and do a sexy dance. Arizona has a skin cutout too that we are also not fond of. Texas looks elegant, but a little blah on the color.

10:02 p.m. - California once again looks skanky to me. Oklahoma looks like she bought a pretty dress, then went bat-crap crazy with her bedazzler.

10:04 p.m. - And then there's Alabama, who actually gets an "Oh my God" out of me. That dress would've been fine without that ridiculous bow. This is not the gift-wrapping counter at Macy's, lady. What were you thinking? North Carolina and Virginia are backstage shooting daggers at that ball gown.

10:05 p.m. - Miss Nevada just declared her run for President. You have my vote, Pamela Reed.

10:07 p.m. - Yes! Talent! This is the best. And hilariously, they are announcing the three eliminees after the girls have gotten prepared for their talent. So they just have to slink off stage.

10:08 p.m. - Arizona is first, she's a burlesque dancer, apparently. OK, fine, she has some good moves, but she's really not a "dancer." There's no polish to this. And she keeps mouthing the words, why is she doing that? Stop.

10:10 p.m. - Up next is Illinois, a pointe dancer. Her music and doll character is very weird, but she's pretty good. One of her trivia facts at the bottom is that she's "afraid of windmills." I wish we could get into that later. Then the next fact is that she's a self-proclaimed "megalophobic," which is a person who fears large objects. Why did "windmills" have to be brought out separately?

10:12 p.m. - Oklahoma is an Irish stepdancer. Awesome. This is so much more fun than the first two dancers. We love the little buckles on her shoes. Then the music speeds up and it gets even better. Wonderful.

10:14 p.m. - Now we get an eliminee, Miss Florida. Must be because you're not eight foot tall.

10:17 p.m. - Next up is Texas, who looks just gorgeous and is a classical pianist. Outstanding. And she seems to be pretty good. That's not really a talent you can fake your way through.

10:19 p.m. - Wisconsin, looking beautiful in red, is our first singing act of the evening. She's an opera singer and she's got absolutely wonderful tone. Opera singers do not always have my favorite tone, but she's wonderful. Ooh, but the last note isn't quite there. Oh well. Probably nobody noticed.

10:21 p.m. - Now we have New York, who has on a really fugly dress. She sings "Disneyland" and it's .... hmmm. It's OK. But it's not that great. And then it goes completely off-the-rails. Oof. That was not good.

10:23 p.m. - Louisiana is a pointe dancer, but more contemporary than our Illinois earlier. And she's ... hmm. She's like a stripper ballerina. This kind of makes me think she's actually not that good of a pointe dancer, so she does this to distract from it.

10:25 p.m. - Elimination time. The girl going home is South Carolina. In her little exit interview, she says she's got TV show offers. Huh. Is it 'cause of the weight loss?

10:30 p.m. - Tennessee is the next performer, she's singing "Memory," which is a pretty cliched choice. And she's singing it in Italian (I think that's Italian). Huh. She's OK, but not wild about the choice. But she dramatically waves her skirt around at the climax, so she'll probably advance. Her trivia bits include "honorary duck master for Peabody Hotel in Memphis" and "suffers from Bieber fever." Okey dokey.

10:33 p.m. - Iowa (phew!) is next. She sings "You Raise Me Up," which is a good choice for this type of competition. Luckily, she can also sing. Her dress is kinda weird. Eh, not my favorite.

10:35 p.m. - We're down to the last two. Advancing is California, which is a bummer because it looked like Alabama was going to tap dance. California is doing the Black Swan variation from "Swan Lake" on pointe. Of course she is. But anyway, she's very good. She's the best dancer of the entire group.

10:37 p.m. - I predict the five advancing to the Q&A portion are Oklahoma, Texas, Tennessee, California and ... hmm. Illinois.

10:42 p.m. - The first question goes to Wisconsin. She is asked if Miss America should declare her political views. She gives a very diplomatic answer, but doesn't answer the question.

10:44 p.m. - Oklahoma gets an obesity question about government regulations of feeding kids. She says it's the parents' responsibility and then the government wouldn't have to step in. OK, we know you only have 20 seconds, but it is QUITE a bit more nuanced than that.

10:45 p.m. - Arizona gets Kris Jenner, who asks about Tim Tebow and religion. She gives a great answer about being convicted and strong in who you are, but not thrusting your faith onto someone else. It's a very good answer.

10:46 p.m. - I cannot believe New York just advanced after that horrid talent performance. She gets an Occupy Wall Street question and she does ... OK. Teri Polo looks like she wants to cut her.

10:47 p.m. - California is the last finalist and she gets a "Teen Mom" question. Her answer kinda sucks, talking about supporting the entertainment industry and the "appetite for reality television." That may not be the point of view they're looking for in a Miss America.

10:49 p.m. - I'm pretty shocked I only got two finalists correct. I am a little stunned Texas didn't advance and I think New York and Arizona had no business being in the finals.

10:52 p.m. - Miss American 2011 Teresa Scalan gets her last walk, which based on its seriouness, you'd think meant her last walk before she is taken out back and shot.

10:53 p.m. - Honestly, after those questions and answers, I think Arizona might win. Her or Oklahoma.

10:55 p.m. - The order from last to first goes California (no shock after that "Teen Mom" answer. You totally blew your awesome talent), Arizona (bit surprised there, Oklahoma must have it in the bag), New York and Oklahoma, making your Miss America 2012 Laura Kaeppeler, Miss Wisconsin. The mascara starts streaming. Thanks for playing along at home with us.

NFL Playoffs, Patriots Vs. Broncos - Open Thread

Tom Brady tied a playoff record with six touchdown passes - three to tight end Rob Gronkowski to match another postseason mark - as the top-seeded Pats buried the Denver Broncos 45-10 Saturday night to advance to the AFC Championship Game for the sixth time in the Brady-Bill Belichick era. The win broke a three-game playoff skid for the Patriots, dating to the Super Bowl XLII loss that marred their previously perfect 2007 season.

The Patriots will host the Baltimore Ravens or Houston Texans next Sunday afternoon.

MORE: 49ers give vintage playoff performance

After seemingly captivating the nation with his magical performance in last week's wild-card win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow wasn't a factor on this night, completing just nine of 26 passes for 136 yards but none of the downfield throws that marked his heroics in that unforgettable overtime thriller.

Alex Smith saves best for last as 49ers trip Saints

San Francisco 49ers Pro Bowl cornerback Carlos Rogers doesn’t care about style points and reputations.

Heading into the NFC divisional playoff game Saturday, the New Orleans Saints boasted the league’s top offense and featured a record-breaking quarterback in Drew Brees.

“We got confidence in our players and our scheme and our team,” Rogers said. “We’re going to get up and challenge guys. They’re going to make plays, but they’re going to make them with us in their face.

“We’re not going to let them run free throughout our defense. We’re going to challenge them, and that’s what we did. We feel we can stop anyone.”

So if the Super Bowl-champion Green Bay Packers win Sunday, the 49ers won’t be intimidated to play at Lambeau Field. In a stirring 36-32 victory against the Saints at Candlestick Park, the 49ers highlighted a host of attributes befitting of a championship contender.

One from a bygone era.

They pounded the ground (143 rushing yards).

They generated turnovers (five takeaways).

And they displayed resilience (two clutch drives).

“That’s what we’ve been doing all year,” said running back Frank Gore, who had 89 rushing yards, including a 42-yarder in the fourth quarter. “As long as we play our brand of football, we can do anything we want.”

The Saints were the hottest team entering the weekend, their last loss coming in October. In the nine games since, Brees has posted dizzying statistics, thanks, in part, to taking just seven sacks.

While he completed 40 of 63 passes for 462 yards, Brees was intercepted twice, sacked three times and pressured 11 other instances.

“Obviously, they have a great defense; we knew that coming in,” said Saints tight end Jimmy Graham, who had two touchdown catches and 103 receiving yards. “We knew if push came to shove, if Drew had the ball in his hands at the end, we would score and we did.

“Unfortunately, we couldn’t stop them.”

That’s why the remaining playoff teams will take notice.

Alex Smith, once labeled a bust, played like an elite quarterback late in the game.

His 28-yard touchdown on a naked bootleg was a brilliant call on third-and-eight, but Smith couldn’t have been much more perfect when he took over on the final drive with 1:37 left and his team trailing 32-29. He completed 5 of 6 attempts for 85 yards, including a 47-yarder to Vernon Davis and a 14-yard touchdown on a post pass to the tight end to win the game.

“We have all the confidence in the world in [Smith], and it showed today,” receiver Kyle Williams said. “For everybody else who wants to dog him, the proof is in the pudding.”

South Carolina Primary: Mitt Romney Opens Up Big Lead

Jan 14 (Reuters) - Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has opened a wide lead over his rivals in the South Carolina primary election race, trouncing Newt Gingrich and gaining momentum in his march toward the party's nomination, a Reuters/Ipsos poll shows.

Romney, a former Massachusetts governor, could all but quash his rivals' presidential aspirations with a victory in South Carolina on Jan. 21 after winning the first state-by-state nominating contests in Iowa and New Hampshire.

Voters in South Carolina - who have favored Republicans in nine of the last 10 presidential elections - appear to have shrugged off attacks on Romney by rivals who accuse him of killing jobs as a private equity executive for Bain Capital in the 1990s.

The poll showed 37 percent of South Carolina Republican voters back Romney. Congressman Ron Paul and former Senator Rick Santorum tied for second place with 16 percent support.

Gingrich, a former speaker of the House of Representatives, has fallen far back after holding a strong lead in South Carolina in December. He was in fourth place at 12 percent in the Reuters/Ipsos poll.

"In primary races things can change quickly but it does look like Romney is in position to win South Carolina, and if he wins ... that's sort of the end of the road for most of his challengers," Ipsos pollster Chris Jackson said.

MITT VS NEWT FEUD

Romney is clearly winning a feud with Gingrich that began in December before the Iowa caucuses and has become the most bitter fight in the selection of a Republican challenger to Democratic President Barack Obama in November's general election.

In a question asked of Republicans and Democrats, the poll found South Carolina voters would favor Romney over Obama by 46 percent to 40 percent.

Asked who they would choose if the nomination contest were solely between Romney and Gingrich, 62 percent of Republicans picked Romney and 30 percent went for Gingrich.

Senior Republican figures and business executives have berated Gingrich for painting multi-millionaire Romney as a ruthless corporate raider. Many Republican voters are also turned off by the attacks, highlighted in a video documentary produced by a funding group that backs Gingrich.

"I think those attacks are misguided. The process of any economy has long been one of creative destruction. Some things grow and some things disappear," said Steve Matthews, a lawyer from Columbia, South Carolina, who plans to vote for Romney.

Romney argues that many more jobs were created by Bain than were lost in his time there.

Santorum, who surged into second place in the Iowa caucuses before fading in New Hampshire, got a boost on Saturday when Christian conservative leaders meeting in Texas endorsed him.

After Gingrich, Texas Governor Rick Perry placed next in the Reuters/Ipsos poll with 6 percent support. Former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman, who was third in the New Hampshire primary, came in the lowest in the South Carolina poll with 3 percent support.

"Even if Romney loses South Carolina by a point or two, he's got the organization, he's got the financial backing to do the long battle of attrition that other challengers really don't," said Jackson of Ipsos.

Romney's campaign announced this week it raised $24 million in the last three months of 2011, while Paul raised $13 million and Gingrich raised $9 million. Obama is way ahead of the Republicans in fundraising.

The Reuters/Ipsos poll was conducted online from Jan. 10-13 with a sample of 995 South Carolina registered voters. It included 398 Republicans and 380 Democrats.

Statistical margins of error are not applicable to online surveys but this poll has a credibility interval of plus or minus 5 percentage points for Republicans and 3.4 percentage points for all voters. The Woman with Two Vaginas!

A 27-year-old woman revealed all today about a rare medical condition which means she has TWO vaginas side by side.

Hazel Jones was diagnosed with the "one in a million" condition uterus didelphys when she was 18, after suffering with difficulties from when her periods started at 14.

She had to lose her virginity twice, and also has to have two smear tests, but has decided not to have surgery to correct the condition.

The condition means a woman has two separate uteruses, two vaginas and two cervixes. It happens when a septum which usually breaks down between two tubes that form the uterus does not break down, leaving two uteruses.

Speaking on ITV1's This Morning, Ms Jones, from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, said nobody realised anything was different about her until her periods started when she was 14.

"That wasn't fun," she told presenters Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield and doctor Dawn Harper, saying she bled from one side then the other.

"It wasn't nice. I had friends and I would try and explain to them, 'I'm having a problem' but they had no idea what I was doing. They looked even more confused than I did.

"I actually did ask a friend, I said, 'do you have any problem working out which hole to put them in' and she thought I was putting it up my bottom'.
"I think I pretty much kept my mouth shut after that for quite a while."

"If you are not aware that you have got this it can be really uncomfortable, I thought I was having cystitis, I thought I was having urine infections from a young age, when I wasn't. I was actually tearing the middle septum."

Miami Heat (8-3) at Denver Nuggets (7-4), 10:30 p.m. (ET)

Consecutive overtime losses have the Miami Heat reeling for the first time this season.

LeBron James and Company will try to right the ship in the Rockies on Friday when the star-studded Heat finish a five-game road trip against the high- scoring Denver Nuggets.

Miami won the first two legs of its trek in Atlanta and New Jersey before hitting the skids on the West Coast, losing in OT on consecutive days to Golden State and the LA Clippers.

The latest setback came on Wednesday when Chris Paul scored 27 points and dished out 11 assists as the Clips took down the Heat, 95-89, at Staples Center. James paced Miami with 23 points and 13 rebounds, but missed several free throws in the final minute of regulation that would have either tied the game or put the Heat ahead.

Mario Chalmers had 18 points, Dwyane Wade scored 17 and Chris Bosh notched 16 with 11 boards for Miami.

"The Clippers made shots down the end and we couldn't close the door," Miami head coach Eric Spoelstra said. "That was great, compelling playoff basketball early in the season."

The Nuggets, meanwhile, snapped a two-game skid on Wednesday when Danilo Gallinari led six teammates in double-figures with 22 points as Denver cut down the New Jersey Nets, 123-115, at Pepsi Center.

Arron Afflalo and Corey Brewer netted 19 points and Rudy Fernandez finished with 15 points to go with eight assists and four steals for the Nuggets, who bounced back nicely after dropping the opener of a four-game homestand against the New Orleans Hornets on Monday.

Al Harrington contributed 13 and Andre Miller had 12 points and 12 assists for Denver, which recorded an NBA season-high 37 helpers despite being without starting point guard Ty Lawson, who missed the contest with a strained right foot.

"You'd rather see your team be unselfish to a fault, to a problem, than the other way," Nuggets head coach George Karl said of his team's unselfish play. "Most NBA teams have the other problem on their team. I can live with that."

Lawson hopes to play tonight as does Gallinari, who sprained an ankle against New Jersey.

Denver, which is 5-1 at home, will finish its residency against Utah on Sunday.

Miami has lost 10 of 12 against the Nuggets and leads the NBA in scoring at 106.4 points per game, with Denver on its heels at second with 103.6 ppg.
